The Town of Fort Erie is lowering flags at Town Hall, Town facilities and the Fire Stations to half-mast every Monday until March 8th to recognize the lives lost due to COVID-19.
Welland was the first city to lower flags to honour those who have died during the pandemic.
Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop says the flag acts as a reminder of how fragile and precious life is and how important everyone does their part to help save lives.
Redekop reminding residents the state of emergency order is in effect until at least February 9th and he asks everyone to only go out for essential purposes such as buying groceries, picking up medication or getting exercise.
