Town council seeking ideas on uses for municipal parking lots, such as overnight parking
Fort Erie town council will be looking for your opinion over the next month on use of municipal parking lots.
It's to consider options such as whether to charge to park.
City staff pointed out there's different aspects to the Municipal Parking Lot Use and Maintenance Policy, for any given lot. "The intention is to figure out whether that lot would support an overnight parking or not. So, it wouldn't necessarily be that every parking lot would support an overnight parking. We would probably do some public consultation, consult with the BIAs."
The Town has received requests from residents and Business Improvement Areas on how to improve the use of town owned parking lots.
Mayor Wayne Redekop clarifying this goes beyond maintenance.
"This is talking about things that go beyond that, including whether we're going to be charging in some of these lots, whether we're going to be permitting overnight.... that I think needs to get out to the public," he says.
The Municipal Parking Lot Use and Maintenance Policy will focus on short-term parking, accommodating alternate forms of transportation, and solve residential concerns from high volumes of parking.
