Ford is asking the Federal Government to put the carbon tax on hold for a minimum of 6 months while Canadians continue to pay record prices at the pumps.
Gas prices are expected to rise to new record highs in Ontario later this week.
Premier Doug Ford was asked today if he will cut the gas tax ahead of the budget like he promised to do in November.
Ford says that even if they do cut the Provincial gas tax, it won't make a difference because of the carbon tax.
"We cut the 4.5 cents and the next you know the carbon tax came in and then another increase at the beginning of this month, so it is a total of 11 cents on the carbon tax. I'm frustrated, because I feel that we take off the 5.5 cents and the carbon tax just wipes it right out. That's just not right."
Ford is calling on the Federal Government to put the carbon tax on hold.
"What I'm asking the Federal Government to do is to put the carbon tax on hold for the next 6 months as we go through this and I will match whatever the Federal Government deducts. I just feel like if I do it, the carbon tax will just wipe it out and that is just not fair to the people."
Ford says ideally he would love to get rid of the carbon tax altogether but at the very least it needs to be put on hold while Canadians continue to pay record prices at the pumps.
