Jo Zambito says to be ready for road closures, for better movement of emergency vehicles
It's two weeks today... the big day Niagara Falls, the world, has been waiting for, the full solar eclipse.
Niagara Falls fire chief Jo Zambito tells us with possibly a million people here, they're doing everything to prepare for potential emergencies.
The city has been talking with American cities who've had experience with large scale events. "We have dedicated routes that are for getting down to the falls area, that is exclusively for emergency workers, the roads are blocked to allow us to get down there quicker. The public will not be allowed to drive down some streets."
As for the weather, the chief is anticipating that day to be a sun and cloud mix, with a high of 18.
He adds they need to be ready, for example, if someone need help in a packed park.
"From an emergency services perspective, all our partners, that is police, EMS, will be ready... the provincial government will be watching us to see if we need any resources."
He says they're learning from people who travel the world, who look for solar eclipses to watch them.
