Car smashes into toll booth on Fort Erie side of span
Niagara Regional Police, EMS and Fort Erie Fire were called to the scene just before midnight last night after a car collided with a toll booth at a high rate of speed.
Police say the car sustained significant damage and caught fire.
The lone driver was ejected from the car and despite efforts by first responders was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the deceased has not been released.
While portions of the QEW in the immediate are were closed due to the investigation and debris clean-up, the road has re-opened in the area.
The collision is under investigation by detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Service Unit.
