Niagara South MP stood in House of Commons, referring to assault of 3-year old Welland girl
Niagara South Conservative MP is not giving up in getting bail system and other justice reforms done in Ottawa.
Last week, Fred Davies asked the government support Conservative Jail Not Bail legislation, in keeping repeat violent offenders in jail, and scrap what he called Liberal bail laws.
He referred to a repeat offender in Niagara. "Mr. Speaker, Daniel Senecal brutally sexually assaulted, choked, and nearly killed a 3-year old little girl in Niagara... this crime has mobilized my community and galvanized an effort to have the Criminal Code changed so monsters like this never see the light of day again."
Secretary of State for Combatting Crime Ruby Sahota said the government has its own legislation.
She says the Welland case is why Bill C-9 was made. "C-9 has created more hate related crimes offences in the Code, with tougher penalties, Mr. Speaker. C-2 also brings tough on crime legislation as well, and, I'm afraid the Conservatives think it's too tough."
She accused the Conservatives of not being supportive enough.
