City and province hoping it can be part of multi-billion dollar plan for Niagara tourism
Provincial government working to make sure Marineland, or the land it's on, is part of its multi-billion plan to grow Niagara tourism.
However, Premier Doug Ford says the park is privately owned, not by government, while he hopes a home is found for the struggling whales.
He says Minister of Tourism Stan Cho and Mayor Jim Diodati are on this. "We go out and we take surveys. The number one attraction, which didn't surprise me, was theme parks. So, back in the day, when my kids were little, when a Marineland ad came on, and they'd be jumping up and down, the next thing I knew I'd be going to Marineland."
Some encouraging words from Niagara Falls mayor.
Jim Diodati says the city has had a number of potential buyers asking about land use. "I can tell you right now the size of that property is about 3 Magic Kingdoms, to put it into perspective. It used to be the number one tourist attraction in the country, and obviously animal entertainment has fallen out of favour in the last 60 years."
Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford said it's up to the park to sort things out with the whales and ownership, since it is privately owned.
