Welland City Council has asked staff to apply for government funding to help cover the cost of infrastructure in Dain City.
At yesterday's council meeting, City of Welland councillors asked staff to apply for a pair of government funding measures to help pay for infrastructure upgrades in Dain City.
After a significant storm last month, which say more than four inches of rainfall in a 14 hour period, the City received over 80 flooding reports, many in Ward 6.
"Like many municipalities, Welland faces the challenges related to inflow and infiltration of stormwater into the sanitary network," said Sherri-Marie Millar, director of infrastructure services and city engineer. "Successful funding applications would accelerate projects that benefit Welland now and in the future."
Options for funding include an application to the Disaster Mitigation Adaptation Fund, in order to support inflow and infiltration reduction efforts in the area.
Another choice is through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - Green Stream, which gives priority to water infrastructure projects relating to drinking water.
