In an effort to be more environmentally-friendly, the City of Welland's Building Division is replacing two gas-fueled vehicles with two electric ones.
The City says that the 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric Vehicles can travel up to 415 kilometers on a single charge, and are entirely emissions-free.
They also say that the hydro costs of the new vehicles is $500 a year per car, which is most lower than the current annual cost of $1400 per vehicle.
The cars will be funded by revenues derived from building permit fees.
The Building Division is funded entirely through building permits, so it doesn't have an impact on taxes.
Mayor Frank Campion says that this is a move in the right directions, since the vehicles require little service maintenance.
