Joe Kushner says he was mauled while campaigning
A vicious dog attack has left a St. Catharines city councillor recovering from wounds while campaigning for re-election.
The Standard reports Joe Kushner approached the front door of a Western Hill home on Sunday, when he was knocked to the ground by a large dog.
He says he kept kicking as the dog bit him several times, but it wasn't until the owner of the home and dog pulled it off.
Kushner adds the owner berated him for trespassing.
Kushner says he was helped by a neighbour, as well as his daughters who were nearby canvassing, and eventually went to the doctor.
The city councillor adds he has never experienced anything like this in all his years of campaigning.
An investigation is on-going, with Niagara Region Animal Service adding it's yet to be determined what to do with the dog, whether to put it down, or have it better controlled.
