Defense Minister Anita Anand has authorized sending up to 150 Canadian troops to Poland to help Ukrainian refugees.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be sent to Poland in an effort to help Ukrainian refugees settle into the area.
The announcement was made at CFB Trenton this morning by Defense Minister Anita Anand.
While 100 will be deployed for the time being, Anand has authorized 150 troops to help support the effort.
Armed Forces members will help process refugees and provide medical supports.
Anand said most of the troops will be from Edmonton, Alberta and Kingston, Ontario, and will be deployed in the coming days.
So far, about 2.7 million Ukrainians have fled to Poland to escape the Russian invasion.
Meanwhile, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser says 41,000 people have been approved for a special immigration program that will allow Ukrainians to live and work in Canada for up to three years.
