Niagara residents will not be impacted by Canada Post's work over the next year
In an effort to modernize operations and return to financial self-sustainability, Canada Post is in the midst of converting about 4 million homes across Canada from door-to-door delivery to community mail boxes.
The current phase out will see about 485,000 homes converted.
This next phase will affect 37 communities across seven provinces, including Ontario. However, none of the conversions over the next year will impact any of Niagara's 12 municipalities.
The plan is to have home delivery completely phased out within five years.
Ontario will see the most conversions in this current transition, with more than 158,000 addresses impacted. Quebec follows with 139,000, while B.C. has 81,000 and Alberta will have about 55,000. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba will each have less than 20,000.
Canada Post had a $205 million pre-tax loss in the first quarter of this year. The Crown corporation posted a record-breaking $1.57 billion loss in 2025.
