New name comes after significant contribution to complex at Canada Games Park.
The Walker family and Walker Industries have revealed the name chosen for the sport and recreation complex at Canada Games Park.
The complex will be known at the Walker Sports and Abilities Centre.
The announcement was made today by Geordie Walker on behalf of his family, who is donating $3 million to the facility.
"Sports and recreation play a critical role in the physical and mental well-being of Canadians and is woven into the very fabric of every community in Canada. Therefore, we are very proud to support this unique facility and the long-term legacy it will create in Niagara."
Construction of the facility is underway, with an expected completion date of January 2022.
It will be used next year when Niagara hosts the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
The Walker family are fifth generation owners of Walker Industries, which has produced several industrial products and services since 1887.
The centre will be located in Thorold near Brock University's main campus.
