Police were called to a St. Catharines apartment building
An innocent by-stander is recovering after being shot in a St. Catharines apartment early Friday afternoon.
Police were called to the building in the Ontario and St. Paul Street area for a shooting, to find a woman had been unintentionally shot by unknown people in a neighbouring room.
She was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police then closed in on the room the suspected shot came from, and a short time later arrested two people.
38-year old Andre Smith, of St. Catharines, is charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Discharge a Firearm at a Place in a Reckless Manner
- Possession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a License
- Possession of a Firearm Without Holding a License
- Possess a Loaded Firearm
- Aggravated Assault
Police add 20-year old Anikkita Beckford-Stone, also of St. Catharines is charged with:
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Discharge a Firearm at a Place in a Reckless Manner
- Possession of a Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly Not Holding a License
- Possession of a Firearm Without Holding a License
- Possess a Loaded Firearm
- Aggravated Assault
Both remain behind bars after a bail hearing that happened on Saturday.
Police recovered a gun on Saturday from the room.
