The Duke of Edinburgh was 99
The Royal Family announcing the passing of a senior member.
The family says "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh"
His Royal Highness, who was 99, passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Philip supported his wife in her role as Queen for over seven decades.
The Prince spent a month in hospital this winter before being released on March 16 th.
Philip is survived by the queen and their four children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward as well as eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
