CBSA workers nationwide could strike over wages, job security, contracting out
Border agents across Niagara, and around the country, are inching toward a possible strike.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Customs and Immigration Union say their members will be voting on if they want to strike starting Wednesday.
The union says after two years of bargaining with Canada Border Services Agency, it declared an impasse in September.
The union further said the CBSA refused to budge on key issues such as keeping wages in line with other law enforcement, as well as job security, access to telework, and protections from contracting out.
Workers have been without a contract since 2022.
While they vote on a strike mandate, the union and government will continue to try for an agreement.
The government will release a report on those meetings, and the workers can legally strike a week after that report is released.
