Animal rights group says government is waiting on health reports before moving them

The waiting game continues for when we see the beluga whales at Marineland finally get moved to American aquariums.

Animal Justice Executive Director Camille Labchuk tells us the federal government is waiting for doctor reports showing the whales' health is good for transport, after issuing conditional permits.

She adds Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson needs to include another permit.  "Very strict, no breeding provisions, so these US aquariums can't force the whales to have babies, and thus keep this type of situation going in captivity."

She also says the four aquariums have not shown how much space they have, or much other detail.

She points out Marineland has made millions of dollars on these whales, keeping them in large tanks.  "And forcing them to perform tricks, and forcing them to breed.  And one would've thought that a responsible company would have set aside some of those massive proceeds to help support them in going to a sanctuary in the future, and that's what they haven't done."

She also says Marineland has not spoken to a Nova Scotia site, which was an option.
