Police say this time of the year is when criminals take advantage of distractions
A reminder from Niagara regional police to be extra wary of scams, fraud and theft at this time of the year.
They say criminals will take advantage of increased shopping, travel and seasonal distractions.
Be mindful of distraction theft, that happens in a busy area, in which a victim is distracted by a criminal, who then tries to steal wallets and other valuables.
There's also financial fraud, which tends to start with a phone call, criminals claiming to be from a bank, and trying to get personal information.
Police say financial insitutions will never phone and ask for personal information, over the phone.
If you believe a phone call is criminal, hang up immediately, and call police with this information.
