St. Catharines council listened to concerns one building could impact flight path of helicopter
The City of St. Catharines is moving forward with zoning changes for two apartment buildings just west of the Marotta Family hospital.
Niagara Health expressed concern one of the buildings could impact the flight path for the hospital's helicopters to the helipad.
Project Manager Marcus Martins said they hired WSP, an aeronautical engineering company to study that. "They concluded that it won't obstruct with the flight path, and they have sufficient clearance to safely land the helicopter. We are also having the noise considerations being reviewed for the helipad, which will be explored through the site planning process."
Council received assurances changes could be made, after Transport Canada and the hospital expressed concern.
Councillor Kevin Townsend was the only vote against. "I don't feel comfortable supporting this, knowing that height limit could impact the helicopter path. Transport Canada can come in and shut down a development like this."
