Ashley Judd to speak in Niagara Falls
Over 750 community leaders and advocates supporting those suffering from mental health issues are gathering in Niagara Falls for a major event.
It's Pathstone Mental Health's Hope Gala, happening June 14th at Fallsview Casino.
Pathstone Director Marla Smith tells us keynote speaker is actress and humanitarian Ashley Judd, known for movies such as Double Jeopardy.
She says Ashley has fought through a lot. "Her mother died by suicide, she has openly shared that she's been sexually assaulted on 3 different occasions. And, she was one of the first people to come forward about [movie producer] Harvey Weinstein."
She adds reaching one person at a time is vital.
She admits solving mental health problems is monumental. "For people that are going through it, for their families that are supporting them, and for our community. And, I think the most important thing is to be understanding on the individual things that contribute to mental health issues."
She adds Judd is someone they've been working on since last August to book.
