The councillor stays on for the month, part of a rotating list, until a new Chair is named
With the resignation of former Niagara Regional Chair Bob Gale last night, Councillor Rob Foster takes over on an interim basis.
The region says according to its by-law, an Acting Chair is appointed, as part of a rotating list of acting chairs.
Rob Foster will stay on in the role for the rest of this month.
Last night, Bob Gale resigned over accusations from the Niagara Anti-Racism Committee that he owned a copy of Mein Kampf, by Adolf Hitler.
Gale pointed out in his resignation letter to the province he has an extensive collection of historical artifacts, listing some in his letter, but not mentioning Mein Kampf.
He added there are some in Niagara that will stop at nothing to maintain their addiction to power and money, and they wish to paint a picture that is not true, and hurtful to him, and his family.
We've reached out to Rob Foster for comment, but as anticipated, that is not possible today due to a very busy schedule.
Yesterday, Municipal Affairs Minister Rob Flack and Acting Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy were scheduled for an announcement in Thorold, but that was cancelled later in the day, before Bob Gale's resignation letter was delivered.
