Legislative committee to conduct the review
Provincial Housing Minister Paul Calandra says a legislative committee will review six of Ontario's regional governments, including Niagara.
Earlier this week, Calandra said he would look at the previous decision to have facilitators examine Niagara, Durham, Halton, York, Waterloo and Simcoe County.
In a statement, he says the study will consider whether two-tier governments in those regions will support the building of new homes.
It will also examine whether some services should be moved to another level of government.
Last year, former Housing Minister Steve Clark announced regional facilitators would be appointed to the areas to determine whether they could help the province's goal of building more housing.
Clark stepped down on Labour Day, after two scathing reports on the province's plans to build housing on the Greenbelt.
Calandra says the committee will include members of all political parties.
