Almost 3,000 people died from drug or alcohol toxicity in 2021, a significant increase compared to the almost 1,600 reported in 2018.
ONTARIO - A new report shows that almost 3,000 people died from drug or alcohol toxicity in Ontario back in 2021.
It was conducted by The Ontario Drug Policy Research Network and Public Health Ontario.
When you do the math, senior author Tara Gomes it works out to an average of eight deaths a day. She also says most of the deaths involved more than one substance.
This death toll is almost double the amount that was reported back in 2018, which was almost 1,600.
