A beloved annual celebration throughout much of the world.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will be illuminating both the Canadian Horseshoe and American Falls in green on March 17 for 15 minutes at the top each hour, beginning at 8pm in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
The illumination is carried out each year as part of Tourism Ireland’s “Global Greening” initiative, which sees hundreds of iconic landmarks from around the world lit in green to mark the occasion.
Niagara Falls joins landmarks around the world in the celebration, including the Empire State Building, the London Eye, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa, all of which will be illuminated in green for the occasion.
Saint Patrick's Day was made an official Christian day of celebration in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion, especially in the Church of Ireland.
