A made-in Canada COVID-19 vaccine is said to be showing promising trial results.
The Medicago vaccine is showing showing positive antibody results in its Phase 2 trial, and may even be ready for a final authorization from Health Canada this summer.
While the results are not yet peer-reviewed, Medicago's Executive Vice-President for Scientific and Medical Affairs Nathalie Landry says other vaccines in use showed a similar correlation between the amount of antibodies produced and their effectiveness against the virus.
A Phase Three clinical trial is underway in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, with 30,000 participants.
Since a large percentage of Canadians will be fully vaccinated by the end of the summer, Landry says there are talks about testing if Medicago can be mixed and matched with other vaccines as a booster shot.
