The park will be renamed Sho’aríshon Park
Councillors in Lincoln have passed a motion to rename Jordan Hollow Park.
The park will be renamed Sho’aríshon Park, in order to acknowledge Indigenous connections to the land.
The name was picked with full support from Indigenous advisors, including the Niagara Regional Native Centre.
Sho’aríshon is the modern Mohawk spelling for a Neutral Chief from the 160s, and it translates to "he is shaking the net."
The Town says the decision will be ratified by council on June 26th.
The park will be redeveloped in 2024.
